Personal Independence Services Program

HDC Personal Services BuildingPersonal Independence Services is a program operated during the day for individuals with severe and/or multiple disabilities who need personal assistance to enable them to function as independently as possible in all life areas.

Instructors conduct a variety of classes which people attend based on their interests and abilities. Classes include instruction in areas such as communication, grooming and personal hygiene, social skills, domestic responsibilities, current events, and much more. A Community Awareness class learns how to access the community by attending events and going to stores and other places in the community.

Nurses are available, as are HDC staff who can provide physical therapy, in consultation with a licensed Physical Therapist, for participants whose doctors have prescribed that service.
