Handicapped Development Center - Get Involved

Booster group Parents, siblings, and friends of individuals receiving services at HDC form the members of the HDC Boosters Organization. The purpose of the Boosters is to promote and assist the Handicapped Development Center in its mission. They accomplish that goal by:

Providing recreational activities for HDC participants, such as:

Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day Dances
A Summer Picnic
Two six-week swimming programs
A Bowling League on Saturdays

Advocating for issues that effect people with disabilities through:

Letter writing campaigns
Contacting legislators
Informing their membership of important issues

Raising funds through these annual events:

A Cash Raffle
A Nut and Candy Sale
A Garage Sale
Birdies for Charity

Keeping people informed through:

A monthly newsletter
Sponsoring informational luncheons and tours at the Center

With the proceeds of the Boosters fundraising activities, they not only provide many activities for the participants, but they have donated substantially to the Center. Their donations have allowed for the purchase of automatic door openers, computer work stations, a wheelchair accessible van, production equipment in Employment Services, and much more. Understanding the vital importance of ensuring the future of HDC services, they have also contributed over $100,000 to the HDC Endowment Fund. People at a picnic

The Boosters Organization also offers an Associate Membership Program which promotes the participation of businesses in the Boosters' activities. Many of the Associate Members participate in the Nut and Candy Sale by selling these items in their place of business. In return, they receive publicity and recognition in the Booster Newsletter which is distributed to over 500 households and businesses.

Next Meeting--Annual Dinner Meeting
The next Booster Meeting is the Annual Dinner Meeting on May 13th at 3402 Hickory Grove Road, Davenport at 6 p.m.. Cost is $10 per person.
